A rich, creamy botanical balm created to comfort, nourish, and protect dry or stressed skin.

Rooted in traditional herbal craftsmanship, Calendula Rescue Balm begins with a carefully prepared botanical infusion of calendula, comfrey leaf, and passion flower, drawing forth the valued qualities of these time-honored plants. Blended with beeswax, aloe vera, vegetable glycerin, and vitamin E, this moisture-rich formulation combines the softness of a cream with the lasting protective qualities of a traditional botanical balm.

Its velvety texture melts gently into the skin, softening rough areas and helping lock in moisture. The result is skin that feels supple, comforted, and beautifully nourished, with a delicate protective layer that helps maintain softness throughout the day.

The balm’s aroma is shaped by the botanicals themselves. Calendula, comfrey leaf, passion flower, and lavender lend a gently herbaceous character, complemented by subtle notes of lavender and cedarwood that evoke the quiet warmth of a well-tended herbal garden.

The Botanical Story

"I go to nature to be soothed and healed.” — John Burroughs

Some plants earn their place in history not only for their beauty, but for the roles they played in everyday life.

Calendula and Comfrey have long been treasured in traditional herbal gardens, valued for generations for their role in herbal care and household remedies. Often found growing near kitchens and garden paths, they were cultivated as practical garden plants and became familiar fixtures in the daily lives of gardeners, farmers, and herbalists throughout Europe and early America.

Today, both Calendula and Comfrey continue to be grown in the Upper Kitchen Garden at historic Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia. Their presence reflects the Garden's ongoing commitment to preserving the plants, traditions, and horticultural knowledge that have shaped American gardening for centuries.

In our Calendula Rescue Balm, these time-honored garden botanicals are paired with Passion Flower (*Passiflora incarnata*), one of the most remarkable native vines of the American South. With its intricate blooms and vigorous growth, Passion Flower captivated early botanists and naturalists who explored the region's rich landscapes. The plant was later cultivated at Bartram's Garden, where the Bartrams helped preserve and share many of North America's most treasured botanical species.

Together, Calendula, Comfrey, and Passion Flower represent three enduring traditions of American botany: the practical wisdom of the herbal garden, the stewardship of cultivated landscapes, and the wonder of native Southern flora. Their story is one of usefulness, discovery, and a lasting connection between people and the plants that have enriched their lives for generations.

Product Care and Storage

Bartram Botanicals products are handcrafted in small batches using carefully selected botanical ingredients and should be stored with the same care given to fine foods, wines, and traditional apothecary preparations.

For best results, store products in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, excessive humidity, and prolonged heat exposure. We recommend maintaining storage temperatures between 60°F and 75°F . Exposure to extreme temperatures may affect the appearance, texture, aroma, or consistency of natural ingredients without impacting their intended use.

To help preserve the integrity of our formulations, Bartram Botanicals products are packaged in amber glass whenever possible. Amber glass helps protect delicate botanical compounds and aromatic ingredients from light exposure, supporting product stability and longevity.

As with all products made with natural botanical ingredients, slight variations in color, texture, or aroma may occur from batch to batch. These variations reflect the nature of the ingredients themselves and do not affect product quality or performance.
